Chapter 16: Prayer Method
Two days later, Sylutia walked out alone from the Adventurers' Guild hall, holding a book and a small bag of seeds in her hands.
These were given to her by Mareen, reportedly obtained from Lady Franne in the western district, who should be quite an expert in horticulture.
Returning home, Sylutia sat under the shade of a tree in the backyard, flipping through this nameless notebook filled with handwritten diagrams and small tips.
The entire book wasn't thick, only recording the cultivation processes of four types of flowers: 'Spring - Fragrant Honey Dendrobium', 'Summer - Blood Wolfbane', 'Autumn - Swan Orchid', and 'Winter - White Camellia'. The seeds that came with the book were for the Swan Orchid.
Normally, it takes nearly half a year for Swan Orchids to sprout and bloom, but now there were only two and a half months left until the end of autumn.
"This is probably the test Lady Franne has given me," Sylutia put down the book.
If she just watered and tended to flowers like an ordinary person, it definitely wouldn't satisfy Lady Franne. What she wanted to see was someone aspiring to become a professional gardener.
"That means I still need to learn the 'Dew Prayer Method' to promote plant growth."
[Dew Prayer Method] (Verdant Nectar): Gather morning mist at dawn, transform verdant dew into water. (Verdant Dew Water can promote plant growth and cultivation)
But learning the 'Dew Prayer Method' required some 'Verdant Dew Water' as a guiding seed, just like learning the 'Concealment Method' required Cold Fog Wine.
To study, Sylutia needed money - gardeners could earn money - learning gardening required 'Verdant Dew Water' - buying 'Verdant Dew Water' required money - gardeners could earn money
The starting phase was truly difficult. Covering her head with the book, the girl softly sighed.
Previously, Mareen, Sister Winnie, and even Uncle Vanderhey had helped her a lot. Without these people, her situation would probably be much harder now.
'This time, I won't ask anyone for help.' The girl stood up, went to the bedroom, opened a brick under the bed, retrieved her treasured money pouch, and poured the coins onto the bed.
"One, two, three, four, five, six..."
Kneeling on the bed, the girl counted each small silver coin.
"Eighteen silver coins total." She usually kept copper coins in the drawer for daily use.
She had spent quite a bit previously on books and daily necessities, leaving only eighteen now. She heard Verdant Dew Water could be purchased at the Horticulture Guild, but didn't know the price. Picking up the silver coins and returning them to the money pouch, she thought quietly.
Let's go check. If it's not enough, I'll have to borrow money from Sister Winnie. The girl felt somewhat ashamed, wondering if she was being too sensitive. If it really came to that, she'd have to show her face and become a songstress, since Mareen said her voice was very pleasant and she'd definitely be hired at places like theaters and become famous.
Carrying her remaining silver coins and wearing her reddish-brown cloak, Sylutia went to the Horticulture Guild.
Finding a dozing clerk inside, the girl lightly pressed her hood and spoke up.
"Hello, do you sell 'Verdant Dew Water' here?" Her voice wasn't loud. The clerk slowly opened his eyes, yawning as he answered.
"Verdant Dew Water costs ten silver per small bottle, but you need to pre-order it. You can get it tomorrow."
Hearing this, Sylutia breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed 'Verdant Dew Water' wasn't expensive, probably not as rare as 'Cold Fog Wine'.
"Here's five silver coins as deposit. Do I need to register anything?" She placed the silver coins on the counter.
"Yes, write your name here. Come get it tomorrow. Oh, and don't come too early." The other party was still sleepy, casually taking out an account book from under the counter for Sylutia to register.
"Alright." The girl briskly wrote her name 'Tia' and handed it back to the clerk.
"That's all. You can go now." The other party waved his hand, then lay down and fell asleep again.
...
After returning home, Sylutia went to the backyard, planning to first till this small yard full of weeds and wildflowers.
She changed into work clothes made of linen, tied her hair into a practical high ponytail, found the shovel she recently bought, and started tilling the soil from the corner...
This soil is quite hard. While tilling, the girl recalled scenes from her childhood when she saw adults working in her hometown, imitating some of their movements, like stepping on the back of the shovel to press it into the soil.
An hour later, Sylutia stood under the eaves wiping sweat from her forehead, sighed with relief, put down the shovel, and sat on a chair to rest.
By now, the soil in the small yard had been basically turned over, becoming much looser.
Ten minutes later, she stood up again, picked up the uprooted weeds and placed them on a stone to dry. They would probably dry out by the day after tomorrow, then she could shake off the soil and burn the excess weeds in the fireplace.
After finishing the tilling, Sylutia soaked the 'Swan Orchid' seeds in water, then planted them one by one in the soil.
After completing these tasks, Sylutia changed out of her dirt-stained clothes and went to take a bath.
In the evening, after bathing and changing into pajamas, she came to the small yard again, sitting on a chair admiring the purple-red sunset on the horizon. The gentle autumn breeze dried her slightly damp skin, feeling exceptionally comfortable.
Well, this kind of life seems pretty good too.
...
The next day, she went to the Horticulture Guild.
"This is the 'Verdant Dew Water' you ordered. If you're using it to accelerate flower growth, remember to mix it with clean water, don't drip it all directly on the flowers." A new female clerk explained to her.
"The mixing ratio is roughly ten drops per bucket of water. This bottle contains approximately thirty drops of 'Verdant Dew Water'."
"Alright, here are the remaining five silver coins." Although she wasn't planning to use it for watering flowers, she was still somewhat curious.
"Do other people buy this regularly?"
"Yes, some wealthy families occasionally use 'Verdant Dew Water' to accelerate flower growth for banquets or celebrations, to decorate their gardens and mansions." The female clerk answered skillfully.
"Many experienced gardeners know how to use 'Verdant Dew Water', they just can't afford it normally."
After completing the registration, the clerk handed a small, exquisite glass bottle to the girl.
"Thank you." The girl's eyes shifted slightly, observing the quality of this bottle of Verdant Dew Water.
[Verdant Dew Water] (Tier 0 - Verdant Nectar): Dew that can make flowers and plants grow and bloom quickly. (Concentration 14%)
Only 14% concentration? the girl thought, but she couldn't really judge whether this value was reasonable or not.
She could only go back and try it out.
After obtaining the 'Verdant Dew Water', she felt somewhat excited and expectant all evening, only falling into deep sleep very late.
...
Another morning arrived.
Sylutia opened the window, just in time to see the recently risen sun. The morning air still carried considerable chill.
She poured a few drops of Verdant Dew Water onto the only celadon plate in the house, then followed the 'Dew Prayer Method' instructions, closing her eyes to sense and learn.
First, she focused on the weak 'Verdant Nectar' Aspect power within the small amount of 'Verdant Dew Water' on the celadon plate, then slowly used her mental perception to guide and pull it.
Time passed minute by minute. The water droplets on the celadon plate remained unchanged in the dawn light, and the girl standing by the window remained motionless. Her gentle eyebrows were illuminated by the morning light, her face tinged with pale gold, with fine hairs clearly visible in the soft golden glow.
Gradually, the sun slowly rose, about to move to where it couldn't shine on the girl. Fine water mist gathered in the air, finally condensing into a small water droplet that fell and merged with the 'Verdant Dew Water' on the celadon plate.
('Dew Prayer Method' completion +6)
[Dew Prayer Method Lv.0] (Verdant Nectar): An ability not yet fully formed, current progress (6/100)
Whew, finally took the first step. The girl opened her eyes, looking at the additional water droplet in the plate.
If I can really become a gardener, I'll be able to establish myself here. As for what comes after... let's take it step by step.
