Chapter 13: The Emergence of a Heartthrob
Xianlin University City Campus Card Distributor?
As soon as Zhou Yuwen mentioned this, the room was abuzz with whispers. The class was filled with fresh high school graduates, eager yet unsure about the world outside. Zhou Yuwen's announcement left them in awe, although many didn’t quite understand what being a distributor entailed.
"What's a distributor?" someone asked.
"It means he’s in charge of all campus cards in Xianlin University City."
"Really? Can he give us more data then?"
Some girls looked at Zhou Yuwen with admiration, while others thought he was just boasting. Jiang Chao, for instance, felt Zhou Yuwen was bluffing.
But You Changjin, having gone through college, knew that being a distributor was not a trivial claim. He looked up and took a closer look at Zhou Yuwen.
"If this guy becomes our class representative, I can relax for the next four years," You Changjin thought. Then, to his surprise, Zhou Yuwen mentioned him.
Standing on stage, Zhou Yuwen spoke directly. Being reborn, he had no reason to be shy. The more clients he accumulated, the more he earned. Plus, he could negotiate better deals with the telecom office.
Charging 150 yuan for 300 yuan worth of credit was an unbeatable offer. Zhou Yuwen was genuinely providing a great deal for his classmates.
As soon as he finished, the room buzzed with even more excitement.
As Zhou Yuwen said, some students had been around for a few days and knew a bit about the campus card services. His offer was unprecedented. Some worried it might be unfair competition, but Zhou Yuwen didn’t care. He wasn’t trying to make a profit off his classmates; it was all about promotion.
"59 yuan for unlimited internet? Outside it’s 79."
"Yeah! And 50GB of data per month!"
Zhou Yuwen's comprehensive explanation excited everyone. Even those who hadn’t planned on getting a card were tempted.
As Zhou Yuwen explained, going online was a necessity in college. Boys might go to internet cafes, but girls wouldn’t.
"In a dorm of four, one card is enough. The internet cost per person is only 15 yuan a month. It's a great deal. If you’re interested, come find me."
Zhou Yuwen, speaking confidently on stage, turned his self-introduction into a promotional speech. He even mentioned asking Mr. You for confirmation.
You Changjin, intrigued by Zhou Yuwen's charisma, thought, "If he becomes my class representative, my job will be easy."
Zhou Yuwen's request for confirmation startled You Changjin, but he quickly agreed. "Zhou Yuwen is right. Your professional courses will require internet access, and 59 yuan for unlimited access is very reasonable. If you haven’t gotten a card yet, consider consulting Zhou Yuwen."
With the counselor’s endorsement, any remaining doubts vanished. However, You Changjin still had a question. He approached Zhou Yuwen and asked softly, "Are you really the main distributor, or are you promoting for someone else?"
"I’m indeed the main distributor. My prices are the lowest in Xianlin University City. You’ve gotten a card, Mr. You; you should know."
You Changjin nodded. A 150 yuan credit for 300 yuan was a great deal.
"I have a question!" Liu Yue raised her hand.
You Changjin, shorter than Zhou Yuwen, had to look up. Standing tall and confident, Zhou Yuwen pointed at Liu Yue, "Go ahead!"
"Zhou Yuwen, you said you're giving us secondary agent prices. Does that mean we can sell cards for you?" Liu Yue, having grown up traveling with her parents, had a knack for business.
"Exactly. You can sell cards at the same price as other upperclassmen. Each card gives a 30 yuan commission. If you sell over 100 cards, the commission is 50 yuan per card," Zhou Yuwen smiled.
Liu Yue did some quick math. Selling over 100 cards meant earning 5000 yuan.
"Got it! Zhou Yuwen, I’m with you! Can I get a higher commission?" Liu Yue joked, hoping to negotiate.
The class laughed, amused by Liu Yue’s boldness. She didn’t mind the laughter at all.
"Of course. But I hope you’ll vote for me in the class representative election. If I’m elected, I’ll give each classmate an extra 50GB of data."
The room erupted in applause. For Zhou Yuwen, it was a simple promise, but for the students, fresh out of their homes without Wi-Fi, it was a significant offer.
Liu Yue was clearly impressed by Zhou Yuwen. He was handsome, articulate, and ambitious—her ideal type. Wanting to continue the conversation, she said, "You haven’t even run for class representative yet."
"Well, I’m running now. Classmates, I’d like to run for class representative. Give me a chance, and I promise you’ll never run out of data."
"Yes!"
The room burst into applause again, and Zhou Yuwen bowed and stepped down. The applause continued even after he left the stage.
Thanks to his speech, Zhou Yuwen, initially unnoticed in the class, stood out. Many girls started to see him as incredibly handsome.
"Zhou Yuwen, don’t forget my 50GB!" Liu Yue called out as Zhou Yuwen walked by her.
Zhou Yuwen turned and smiled at her.
